Geomagnetic Storm Expected to Hit Earth
Severe G4 Storm Triggered by Solar Blast
Update: May 10, 2024, 7:27 PM
A powerful blast from the sun, originating from a cluster of sunspots on its surface, has triggered a severe geomagnetic storm in Earth's atmosphere. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has classified the storm as a G4, the second-highest grade in their system.
The storm is caused by a coronal mass ejection (CME), an explosion of plasma and magnetic fields from the sun's corona. When CMEs are directed toward Earth, they can interact with our planet's magnetic field and trigger geomagnetic storms.
