Asian Hornet Nest Removed in Guernsey
Largest Nest Ever Recorded
Firefighters in Guernsey have successfully removed the largest Asian hornet nest ever recorded on the island. The nest, which was located in a residential area, was discovered after a resident reported seeing a queen hornet entering it. The Asian hornet team joined forces with Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service and Civil Protection to safely remove the nest.
Five Primary Nests Found This Year
This is the fifth primary nest that has been found in Guernsey this year. Primary nests are made exclusively by queens, and they are typically smaller than secondary nests. The discovery of so many primary nests this year suggests that the Asian hornet population is growing on the island.
