The strongest tremor occurred in Afghanistan, with a magnitude of 46 in Farkhār Takhār. This earthquake was followed by a 41 magnitude event in Ashkāsham Badakhshan.

In the Asia-Pacific region, a 105 km SE of Hasaki, Japan, registered as a major earthquake. This was followed by a 120 km E of Luganville, Vanuatu, with a magnitude of 5.0.
